Help - PPPOE wont connect!
-
Hey everyone,
Trying to setup pfsense to have a play and see how it can work for us.
Currently our internet setup is with ADSL2+, dlink 502t in bridged mode, connecting to a snapgear firewall. It plugs into the snapgear's wan port and the snapgear does pppoe authentication.
I have installed Pfsense on a pc with 2 nic's
I have setup the LAN nic (which i can get to the gui and configure everything) and a WAN one which i have set to PPPOE and put our username and password in.Now i would have thought it would be simple as removing our snapgear and then plugging the pfsense box in and it should authenticate and get going.
No deal… If i look at interface status it shows wan as UP and PPPOE as down. i click connect and the page refreshes and nothing changes. I see the packets change a bit but does not connect.
i have looked around the GUI but cannot find any logs or anything about the PPPOE so im stumped and dont know where to go.
It should be connecting but its not and the pfsense interface doesnt give me any details about it.
Any suggestions on what i can do?
Cheers

Check the logs (Status > System Logs) for entries from mpd, which is used for PPPoE connections.
In those logs should be the answer about why it's failing.

Thanks for that,
Is it strange that all of my logs are empty?
Nevermind after i got it trying to connect again the log showed up (must clear old entries???)
This is what im getting which does not mean much to me.

Did you power cycle the DLink? Or even power it off for a couple of minutes if you're on DHCP with your PPPoE?

You might need to tell us exactly what settings you have in the PPPoE configuration fields for your WAN (except password and first part of the username of course, we don't need to know that)
The contents of /var/etc/mpd*.conf may also be helpful.
In particular, I'm wondering where the name "nkyx-kent" bit in the log came from. If you have the service name field filled in with that, try erasing it.
