DHCP & DNS with a windows domain.

Hi,

I am implementing a pfsense firewall.
The firewall should handle the dns & dhcp where the windows server 2003 was doing this before. But the windows server isn't really stable and causing a lot of stress because when it isn't available then dns / dhcp doesn't work which is of course normal.

So I disable windows dns / dhcp but now I notice that windows shares open slower then normal.
Should I put the windows domain (domain.local) as domain in pfsense? Should I add some other things.

Unfortunately, when dealing with a windows domain, it's usually better to point DHCP and DNS at the windows server, and then configure the server's DNS service to use pfSense as its forwarder for DNS queries.

There are several aspects of being part of a domain which will end up slower (especially login) if your DNS server on the clients is not also your DC.
