Multi-wan with the same gateway
-
Besides buying more equipment, is there anyway to set up multi-wan w/ the same ISP (same gateway)?
-
Not easily.
About the only way would be to run ESX on the current box (if it's capable) and then have a VM sit in front of one WAN that just connects to the WAN2 link and does NAT, and then have the "main" pfSense instance talk to WAN, that VM, and the LAN.
-
Actually, I just setup a pfSense box for my friends and they have two CavTel DSLs…
I went through and setup everything as outlined in the FAQs and it actually appears to have bonded their DSLs together.
When we go to speedtest.net they get twice the download and upload of either of the DSLs singly.

PPPoE is a special case if the ISP support MLPPP, that can bond links, but that is a single login on two WANs, not two WANs with the same gateway.

I think that what you can do is to use an different gateway (ping) ip for each connection. You would have to change the gateway that is pinged manually, and I think some other stuff (Correct me if I am wrong jimp)
-
No, the gateway itself has to be different or the OS would always send the traffic out of the same interface, since it can't handle two paths to the same destination inherently.

Jimp is correct and you'd be wise to heed his advice.
It is far simpler to purchase some old AP's and run them as bridges as in this example.

Just purchase some old AP's, disable everything (wireless) and stick the pfSense wan interfaces in the DMZ's of each router/AP. You can pick up old 802.11b AP's for about £10 on eBay.
