New install of a netgate, but cant access the web
-
I purchased a Netgate with pfsense installed,
I connected one to lan the other to wan.
I Logged in, checked the status and I saw the WAN one got an IP address. But I cant browse or ping any website.
How to I tell the traffic to go out through the WAN interface?
Thanks

Hmm…
Double check the wan info such as gateway and dns. Also on the lan side make sure the machines are set to use pfsense as the gateway.
One thing to check. If you go to Ping under the diagnostic menu and try to ping from there does it work?

I checked everything and pinging worked.
What does: Also on the lan side make sure the machines are set to use pfsense as the gateway. mean?

It means you have to ensure that the clients are using the pfSense server as their default route. Type route print at a command line on your client and look for a destination of 0.0.0.0 or default.

I just checked and they are. Is there some firewall rules I need to play with? Or tell it which data to use which interface for?
Thanks

There's nothing special you should need to do.
What's the first 2 sets of numbers of the WAN IP and subnet mask of your pfSense host? What's the LAN IP and subnet mask? What changes have you made to the default configuration?

from the lan side try to ping a system on the internet via ip address. For example ping 8.8.8.8(this is one of googles piblic dns servers). This will tell us whether it is a dns problem or something else.
