Problem with Parallel-Port
-
Hi
I have a Kontron 986LCD-mITX Mainboard and i can´t install pfsense on HD with Parallel-Port Support. In /dev i have no lp0 or something that indicates the Parallel Port. When i boot from Ubuntu Live-CD i have lp0. Someone an Idea why i don´t have it with pfsense ?
Thanks

It's highly likely that the module isn't included since there's no good use for a parallel port on a firewall.

I have disabled the parallel port in the BIOS on my pfSense system so I can't readily check this in the startup output, but my recollection is that the kernel includes a driver (plip) to use the parallel port as a network interface. See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=plip&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8.1-RELEASE&format=html for more information.

There isn't an actual physical port on my box but the chipset has a parallel port and it's recognised no problem.
I'm running 1.2.3-release embedded.
From dmesg.bootppc0: <parallel port="">at port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 on isa0 ppc0: SMC-like chipset (ECP/EPP/PS2/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode ppc0: FIFO with 16/16/9 bytes threshold</parallel>

It's there on my 2.0 box. Not sure if that was left in for 1.2.3 or not.
ppc0: <parallel port="">port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 on acpi0 ppc0: Generic chipset (EPP/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode ppc0: [ITHREAD] ppbus0: <parallel port="" bus="">on ppc0 plip0: <plip network="" interface="">on ppbus0 lpt0: <printer>on ppbus0</printer></plip></parallel></parallel>

Hmm,
I've got no /dev/lpt0 though. -
I have installed 2.0b4 for testing and here is /dev/lpt0. So in 1.2.3 the parallel Port is not included
