Bit of a 2 in 1 thread here:

I have a ADSL2+ internet connection that can download about 1900KB/s - I have just moved from a cable provider that was about the same spec.

If I am downloading a file from a web page and try to continue browsing the web - web pages load very, very slowly.

The same happens if I'm downloading, others on my network won't be able to play online games etc…

As a test I've enabled the traffic shaper for the ports of a game that one person on the network plays (HON),
I have noticed some errors on my rules but I am not 100% why they aren't working, I simply copied them from the wizards rules and changed the ports to suit the game.

      Log output:

Nov 23 04:37:56 php: : There were error(s) loading the rules: /tmp/rules.debug:84: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:84: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:84: rule expands to no valid combination /tmp/rules.debug:85: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:85: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:85: rule expands to no valid combination /tmp/rules.debug:88: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:88: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:88: rule expands to no valid

Nov 23 04:37:56 php: : New alert found: There were error(s) loading the rules: /tmp/rules.debug:84: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:84: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:84: rule expands to no valid combination /tmp/rules.debug:85: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:85: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:85: rule expands to no valid combination /tmp/rules.debug:88: port only applies to tcp/udp /tmp/rules.debug:88: skipping rule due to errors /tmp/rules.debug:88: rule exp

      Any help would be appreciated.

The shaper isn't quite working since there were errors in the rules.  You need to fix the errors before the shaper will start working for you to note an effect.

Does the ADSL modem have a full-duplex Ethernet connection? Does the pfSense computer have one, too? If not, both should be.

Both ethernet connections should probably support 100Base-TX (or higher) just to make sure that there is never a moment in which the ethernet is the bottleneck.
