        @kronso:

        It's a firewall. It's not a jingle bell machine.

        Thank you for this insightful response.

          hahaĀ  hey it can be both.Ā  ;D

          For the OP, probably find more help searching on beep, shell scripting, and related things. I don't have an answer, but it's a funny idea and a funnier response.Ā  Ā :D

          If you happen to get it working you should post itĀ  :)

          I have the basic script from beep.sh, the startup jingle, I just can't get the pauses right, as jingle bells has pauses between some of the notes.

          Thanks for the help

              In a similar vein, if the PC has a sound card and inbuilt speaker, could it be made to play a music file?

                It could, but we do not include sound drivers or kernel modules for sound.

                  Right, thanks.

                  How hard would it be to add said modules/drivers?

                    You'd just need to copy the sound modules over from a stock freebsd install and load them. If you know your way around FreeBSD, it wouldn't be terribly hard. If you don't, it might be a little difficult to get it all straight.

                        For the pauses in Jingle Bells, would it be possible to just insert a note (or notes) with a frequency outside the range of the PC beep speaker, i.e. 1 or 999999?

                                This is awsome!Ā  ;D
                                In my opinion (as someone living in a supposedly Christian country!) it should be part of pfsense. If you reboot your box on Christmas day it should play jinglebells.Ā  :D
                                That opens up the possibility of other date related start up themes…....
