I can't create two gateways with the same IP
-
Hi folks,
I have two WAN interfaces on my pfsense 2.0, and both use the same Gateway ('cause both are on the same subnet offcourse).
I can't create a gateway for each interface because when I try shows this message:
"The gateway IP address "200.XXX.XXX.1" already exists."
And I can't select the same gateway for two interfaces because I only can select one gateway per interface.
Thanks in advanced.

You can't use the same gateway on two interfaces. If you want to use two links to the same ISP in that way, you'll need some kind of NAT router in front of one connection so it will appear to have a unique gateway.

Thank you jimp,
I'm sorry for my little knowledge about that, but why can't I do this ? Is it possible isn't ?
I have two IPs that use the same gateway, is there a way to set up this without turn on another computer ?
Thank you.

No, it is not currently possible to route to the same gateway through two separate interfaces.
It's been discussed at length on this forum before. If you search the archives you will find many discussions on the topic.

Thanks, but is it a pfsense or TCP/IP limitation ?

It is a general network routing limitation, without getting into too much detail.
There are ways around it, such as ECMP, but they are not working well enough to be a viable solution for load balancing/failover/etc in the way that they need to be used by pfSense.

you might be able to have your ISP switch one of your connections to a static IP. that will probably cost you a few more $ every month but that should give you a different gateway from your non-static connection.

jimp,
Thanks for your answer, don't need get into more details, I get it. =)
rpsmith,
Both connections have static IPs. ???

in that case all you need to do is ask your ISP to move one of your connections to a different subnet.
