in short:
from the console run pkg_add -r http://files.pfsense.org/packages/8/All/mysql-client-5.1.53.tbz
Then install snort -
snort installs fine after the manual pkg_add of the mysql client.

I am getting the same error when trying to install snort on the latest 32bit snapshot.
