I'm gonna set up a Pfsense cluster. But I was wonder what happens if the sync-connection between the nodes goes down. Would that make the slave think it is the master and take over and cause havoc? Or do they also use the LAN-connection and WAN-connection as a "witness" (quorum)?

      Thanks :)

Nothing would happen if you lost the sync interface, other than the config and states failing to sync over. The CARP IPs fail over dependent on what the systems see on the interfaces with CARP IPs. More detailed in the book. http://pfsense.org/book

there won't be a new edition for quite a while, and most of it is close enough to the same, CARP is entirely the same.

The CARP settings have been cleaned up and there may be some other minor GUI differences here and there for setting up CARP but the fundamentals and theory will still be relevant. The organization and wording on the settings in 2.0 is a bit more logical so even if there are differences it should be easy to sort out.
