Well, I decided to make my pfServer machine into a permanent one.

So I want to go from a normal HDD to a brand new SSD (64GB).

What's the better way?  Just backup my configuration then install a fresh copy on SSD, or…?

That's the recommended (and best) way.  Back up your config.xml, do a fresh install on the new device and install your config.xml.  The process works flawlessly.

Does pfSense/FreeBSD automatically trim SSD drives?  If not is there a process to take care of this.  Maybe a script that can be scheduled via CRON?
