Recommends for mATX Atom motherboard and 4 X Gb ethernet
-
Turns out I have a 1U rack mount unit sitting on top of my Norco 4220 4U RAID array. All it contains right now is a blu-ray drive for the Norco server connected over eSATA.
I guess I should build an mATX router. Probably easier to get 4 GB LAN plugged into 4X or 8X PCIe on mATX mboard. 1U could be an issue, though.
Any recommends? Can I even fit a 3X or 4X LAN card in a 1U rack with the usual PCIe right-angle adapter?
Edit: atom mATX is kinda scarce. Does Intel make a low power 1156 or 1155 processor, or is Atom the only low power out there?

Is there any reason why you cannot use a mini-itx motherboard. This motherboards should be able to mount into any 1u box that a micro-atx motherboard can.
Logicsupply carries some mini-itx motherboards that when combined with daughter boards can have 4 gb connections.

Also this is only one example as logic supply has multile jetway motherboards that accept that daughter board.
*Note I have not used the products mentioned or bought from logicsupply, I am just trying to show other options out there ;D

mITX would be fine if it fits the 1U chassis. I think I need more than 1 PCIe lane for the LAN card. Looks like a PCI setup you linked.

Try the AMD Fusion based boards. They will come with a PCIe x4 capable slot and you can use a riser card to fit an appropriate Quad GBe PCIe x4 card in the unit.

The add-in NICs do not use the PCI slot, they attach via a daughter card.

What is the electrical connection? PCI or PCIe? How many lanes?

The Jetway daughter boards date back to motherboards without PCIe. As far as I know there are no PCIe daughterboards but might be worth checking the Jetway web site or asking their tech support.
