Question on Mounting SATA-CF Adapter in Case
-
I've got the following case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811152107
And the following CF to SATA converter:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200152&cm_re=CF_to_SATA--12-200-152--Product
I was thinking I could mount the adapter in the punchout for the parallel port. I'm curious if anyone else has done this, and how exactly they accomplished this. I'm not good with metal work (and don't really have the tools to make my own screw holes) but maybe I could fashion something together with plexiglass and nuts and bolts (small ones obviously). How have others accomplished this goal? Thanks!

Having done this more than once, I'd say you bought the wrong CF Adapter card. With one like this linked below you could more easily mount it so that the CF card passed thru the parallel port punch-out by merely drilling a pair of holes in the expansion slot bracket and securing it with a pair of screw and nuts.

Looking at the 1U case you bought, it has an expansion slot, but I can't tell from the picture if either the bay bracket on the the expansion slot bracket would work there without any mods, as intended, or not.
On my 1U case the the expansion slot accepts the above adapter with the expansion slot bracket as designed - no mods to anything.
Good luck.
PS
If you can go with an CF to IDE interface card instead of SATA, one with an expansion slot bracket can be had for less than $10 shipped. I have used a few of these and they are good.

Yeah I had seen something like that before I purchased, but I didn't even think it would be an option as I'm already using the bracket slot for an Intel dual port NIC. I guess I could have jury rigged something together…but now that you mention it, it might be possible to take an old bracket and fashion it for this purpose. I'd have to look into it. Thanks!
Anyone else done something similar?

Yes. But I've bought the similar adapter with a 2.5" bracket.

Looks like the same card at a lower price and they throw in the metal for free ;-)

It is indeed the same card. The free worldwide shipping is nice but their processing can take up to 2 weeks.

Oh, that bracket has the same mounting holes as a 2.5" HDD so you can mount it anywhere a laptop hdd will fit. That includes using 2.5" to 3.5" brackets.
