2.0-RC1 latest snapshot crashed
-
I updated to the latest snapshot this morning and my box appears to have crashed. I was having some weird problems, so I decided to reboot the box and when I did there was an error that came up on the console that read: "/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so.3: unsopported file layout"
I don't believe I have any hardware issues, but rather than assume that I don't, what could I start checking? I don't have any network connectivity to the box whatsoever, and while it would be simple to just re-install at this point, I need to find out what exactly happened and replace faulty hardware if necessary. I started to look at logs in /var/log/, but they don't appear to have anything in them ??? My guess is I am dealing with a corrupted filesystem, but I really am not sure.
Any clues appreciated….
EDIT: Forgot to mention, this is the 64 bit snapshot

Any confirmation that today's snapshot is radioactive?
ALMOST upgraded today but having being burnt a couple of times I check the forums first.
Mods - it would be useful to have a sticky Pfsense Snapshot Crash Thread Open ;D

I guess today's snapshot depends on your time zone. I upgraded to 2.0-RC1-IPv6 (i386)
built on Sun Mar 20 02:20:38 EDT 2011 and its working fine for me (so far, uptime 3hours 47mins). -

If I recall correctly, I have read a number of reports of that sort of problem with 64 bit installs. If you search this forum for libiconv or unsupported file layout you might find some hint for a solution.

Yes. The 64 bit was screwed up a couple months ago but I believe it was fixed by Jimp.
Perhaps they put in the bug again.
One box with 64 bit from 4 days ago running fine.

In an act of desperation to get my firewall back online, I reinstalled using the 32-bit version. I'm going to steer clear of the 64-bit version for the forseeable future, I searched on the error messages I was getting and it looks like some packages install 32 bit libraries which caused the error.

I wonder why the differences between the old 32 bit and the modern 64 bit versions of Pfsense.
Are there two different teams with different levels of competency working on two versions?
Or does Pfsense 64 bit lag behind the old 32 bit version and if so why? If anything I believe it should be the opposite.
Has anyone given any thought to phasing out the old Pfsense 32 bit version and focus on the 64 bit release?
I mean its getting hard to find old 32 bit computers these days.
Something that is confusing as I get more into Pfsense is the "amd64" nomenclature. ???
It is confusing and leads to some people believing you need to run an amd box when this is not so.
Why the cute way of describing a 64 bit version as amd?

amd64 is the industry standard recognized designation for the 64 bit processor architecture. potatos tomatos.

Thanks. I almost hit the upgrade button but decided to check the forums. Glad I did!
I'm running "2.0-RC1 (amd64) built on Fri Mar 18 18:32:14 EDT 2011" – no crashes but the watchdog timeout messages from yandex are annoying.
