Is my CF Card going bad
-
What are the symptoms of a bad cf card? I'm not seeing any I/O related errors in any log files or dmesg. However recently writes have become incredibly slow. To the point that the only way I can successfully update is to scp the new image to it which takes about an hour and speeds fluctuate a lot from 8kB/s to a little over 100kB/s. The update process itself is also taking a long time to complete as it seems to be spending a lot more time reinstalling the few packages that I have installed.

It could be the sign of a failing card, but it's hard to say with much certainty there. CF media is so cheap these days that it wouldn't hurt to re-image a new card to rule that out.
Depending on the device, it could also just be a sign of unusually high CPU load.

Yeah I went ahead and purchased a new card. The card/system in question is a 1GB CF card in an Alix box. It's still trying to finish updating packages after an update from nearly 20 hours ago. Still nothing in the logs or dmesg though. And the CPU is nearly idle.
