Console - physical link indication (*) on each interface
-
One of the small details from 1.2.3 that I miss on 2.0 is the asterisk (*) showing the physical link to be up on each interface, when connecting to the console via SSH - sometimes, when you're helping a customer troubleshoot a problem, the instant feedback you get by this is enough to point him in the right direction.
Are there any plans to restore this before the new version goes final?

Looks like the banner was reworked to improve its speed, and the new function that was used to gather interface information doesn't have the up/down info. Not sure how easy it would be to bring back at this point without slowing it back down.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply.
I understand your point, it is just that many support calls we receive end up being caused by something as trivial as a disconnected cable, or a turned off broadband modem.
Perhaps (for version 2.1) it would be possible to add a menu option to the console ("Check physical links"), to do that without slowing down the main banner? It would be a tad simpler than entering the shell and issuing an ifconfig, and it could be filtered/formatted to show just link status and speed.
Anyway, it is just an idea - thank you and the rest of the guys for your amazing work!

I'll ask around, see what it might take.
