Core dumping on NTOP now SNORT's Fixed
-
Having had problems with SNORT core dumping (now fixed), I installed NTOP and that's started doing the same.
I've re-installed recently (yesterday) so all should be OK with pfSense, but now NTOP is core dumping which it never used to (even when used in conjunction with SNORT). Is there something fundamentally broken with the packages on my machine?
If so what could it be?
How do I go about diagnosing the problem?

I am having the same problems! If you run Snort & Ntop together and down they goes! Run Ntop by it's self and it still crashes! Dump Ntop from the system and just run Snort by its self and all is fine! Which in it's self is rather nutty… they have very little to do with each other!
So I load Ntop on my Ubuntu Box to keep my eyes on my network... It works just fine! So I have Snort & Ntop running together... Just not on the same machine! :'(
Would love to find the answer to this question! I run the largest remote wireless system in Egypt! In fact the only wireless network to cover most of the country! My life would be easier if my nodes would all work with out the need for extra equipment to do what one machine should! ???

I am having no problems running snort and ntop together. Make sure you have at least 1gig of ram in your machines. Ntop and snort are both memory intensive applications.

2 Gigs with Quad processor and still taking a crap! I am processing traffic across my wireless network covering over 150 square kilometers!
On a average day 3000 to 3800 users! CPU Load 6 to 8 percent! Memory at 1 to 2 percent! Plenty of room to run Snort and Ntop on same machine! Do you have any relevant info on this matter? -

Also show us log outputs when ntop goes down, etc.
I've been running snort and ntop for weeks now with no problems.
