I believe pfsense 1.2.3 is based on FreeBSD 7.2, have you checked to see if the card is listed as being supported?  It's possible pfSense version 2.0 might have support for it since it's based on the newer FreeBSD 8.0

      Check out my pfSense guides

Definitely try 2.0 on there. It's actually based on 8.1, not 8.0, and at the moment we have even pulled down the Intel (em/igb/etc) driver from HEAD so it's even newer.

          Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately I have to use version 1.2.3.

Do you think that installing 2.0 in another computer and coping the .ko could work.

          Thanks for your support.

I can confirm that 2.0 definitely works with the card.

No because pfSense 1.2.3 and 2.0 are based on completely different versions of FreeBSD.

You could try this one, I think it was a newer igb compiled on 7.2 for a customer:

                fetch -o /boot/modules/if_igb.ko http://pingle.org/files/if_igb.ko
                echo 'if_igb_load="YES"' >> /boot/loader.conf.local

I would still recommend 2.0 though at this stage.

What's the current situation with the igb/em driver?
Didn't it get updated and then pulled a while back?
I did a quick search but turned up nothing enlightening.

At the moment it seems to be pretty stable.

Some problems that were thought the be em-related were due to some other patches that have since been backed out for mbuf manipulation.

And I can second that confirmation!

I should buy new network cards… Could anyone recommends a Quad Port PCI Express card compatible with pfsense 1.2.3?

                        Thank you for you support.

Yes I tried but is not working.

I'm going to buy a NIC with chipset 82571 and try it.
