      I'm using: pfSense-2.0-BETA4-20101109-0827
The hardware is an older "Rackable Systems" rack mount server

What does it mean when I boot a system from a pfSense-2.0-BETA4-20101109-0827 CD using verbose mode and I see the below:

      Root mount waiting for: usbsus0
      umass0:0:0👎 Attached to scbus0
Trying to mount root from cd9660:/dev/iso9660/pfSense
      ROOT MOUNT ERROR:
If you have invalid mount options, reboot, and first try the following from the loader prompt:

      set vfs.root.mountfrom.options=rw

I tried booting into the loader prompt, changing the above setting, and rebooting, but when I rebooted the setting appeared to remain vfs.root.mountfrom.options=ro.

Is this an unsolvable hardware issue? What do you recommend as my next troubleshooting step?

      Thanks in advance.

        http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Boot_Troubleshooting

        set kern.cam.boot_delay=10000
        boot

This worked for me. One problem I had when originally troubleshooting, escaping to the loader prompt, setting a value, and rebooting was probably because I'm pretty sure I was entering the command reboot which as far as I could tell was erasing my changes and completely powering off and rebooting. The above documentation referred to the "boot" command which didn't do this and kept the changes I had made and worked.
