      Hi all,
I am using pfSense already, but when utilization is high, my system is crashing. (I have broadband connection more than 20 Mb providing connection to 200+ devices). So I would like to go more powerful  system.
On pfsense hardware requirements it is saying
–-if you need sustained gigabit throughput at wire speed, you will want a server-class motherboard with PCI-X slots and PCI-X NIC's. You'll also need a 2.8+ GHz CPU.---
      and also it is saying
–-pfSense is supported only on the x86 architecture---
the system that I am planning to is Dell PowerEdge  SC1425 Server which is not that expensive as a rack server and also it has XEON 2.8 ghz processor with 800 mhz but it also possibly has 64 bit system.
      So my questions are?
1-Do you guys think that I can install pfSense on this system?
2-Is there any other system that you guys can recommend?
3- on website of SC1425 saying  –-It has Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) to enable continued utilization of existing 32-bit technology and the capacity to incorporate 64-bit operating systems and applications in the future.
Do you guys think it makes any sense of carrying EM64T technology.---

all suggestions ,ideas are more than welcome
I appreciate in advance for your time and sharing experiences.

1)Yes - no problem, x86 is x64, just that pfSense will not utilize any x64 capabilities, at least not in 1.2.3
2)Do a quick search of the forum, but 20mbps isn't a lot of bandwidth and should be no problem.  All of this of course depends on packages, VPN, etc.  What is your current HW setup?
3)I don't think the EMT64 will help or hinder your installation - wouldn't worry about it.

          I appreciate for you answer.
I do have packages of bandwidthd, darkstat installed and running, squid and squid guard installed but not running.
no VLANs. 3 interfaces ( WAN,LAN and back up WAN)
Celeron 900 mhz is the processor with 128MB ram
everytime maximum download and upload runs simultaneously(20 MB up and down) , system is crashing, I am rebooting it and if the high traffic continues , it is crashing again. I cant even ping the device,or check the logs.

so do you think crashing is reasonable because of my system and traffic situation?

You're right on the minimum RAM requirements, which won't help.

I'd guess it's probably a hardware fault, but you really need to view the console when it crashes to find out.
