As mentioned before in this thread :
      http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,30509.msg159520.html#msg159520
Last time I didnt bother to reply since the machine was damaged by lightning
      shortly thereafter.

Now after a few months, another build, a different machine, the hard time out doesn't seem to work again ?
I currently have the following snapshot installed :2.0-RC1 (i386)
built on Sat May 7 22:58:48 EDT 2011
Installed on an Esxi 3.5 server

Which log could have any relevant info in it ?

        It works for me!
        Possibly you need to update?

          Yeah maybe,
But do you think it will help ?
Since i had the same problem on 7 dec, with a completely different machine,
and the snapshot of 1 dec 2010.

I can't say it will but and upgrade is needed if you want help from developer with a problem (time issue) and then gitsync between shapshots will be possible.
For changes since your version you can watch
            http://redmine.pfsense.org/projects/pfsense/issues
set status to all and add the filter category
set category to is captive portal and press apply

Check your portal auth log, see if it's having trouble making changes to the database.

Last time I saw a problem with timeouts not working, it was an older system that had problems with the DB. Updated and it was fine. Couldn't reproduce it on another firewall even with the "broken" system's captive portal database file.

I unfortunately rebooted the system and all is well again,
but the logs are gone, portalauth.log only has a few hours of data so i can't backtrack.
I reinstalled a half year ago on an Esxi server, updated along the way upto the 7 may snapshot.
I can investigate further IF it happens again, when there is interest to do so.
                Thanks for the reply.
