      Looking to compile some addons (hopefully i wont need to mess with the kernel) but how does one add developer tools to 2.0 ???

        The easiest way to compile something for pfSense 2.0 is to do it on a FreeBSD 8.1 box. There is no easy way to add all the required tools to a pfSense install. I believe you can do it from a PC-BSD 8.1 live CD, though I've never tried it myself.

          You'll never get a proper environment for compiling on the firewall, not without a lot of headaches and mess that really aren't worth it. Setup a FreeBSD 8.1 box or VM, compile there, and move things over. Much simpler that way, and it doesn't reduce the security of the firewall (unless you're installing a program that does :-)
