I have just installed pfsense successfully and everything works fine with LAN. but i have added a wifi card and decided not to bridge but instead give its own subnet

Which I have setup doing the following:

      Added interface:

      amended OPT1(WLAN)

      static : 192.168.2.1 /24
inputted my ssid and wpa etc

gone to the dchp server tab

      enabled it and input 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.199

third step replicated LAN rule on OPT1(WLAN)

      ie

Pass–-> WLAN subnet--->source ANY ----source ANY

rebooted just to make sure, but my laptop connects successfully to the accesspoint and is assigned and IP, but i cant surf the net or access the webgui.

where am i going wrong ?

Looks like you're doing everything right.
Check the firewall logs to see if anything is being blocked.
Is your laptop being assigned the correct details, gateway, subnet?

What IP address? Perhaps the laptop is just assigning itself an IP address 169… after timing out waiting for a DHCP assignment.

You make no mention of a firewall rule to allow DHCP traffic. It doesn't look as if your firewall rule will pass the initial DHCP request (which comes from 0.0.0.0).  A search of the forums for DHCP firewall rule will probably turn up something suitable.

Hmm, I don't have a DHCP rule on any of my interfaces.
            I've never had a problem.  :-\

yes i have never heard of this dchp traffic rule

i used to use pfsense on an alix and used the above method described for setting up AP. it always used to work.

but since i use version 2.0 on my atom this first time. Strangely its not working anymore. I can connect to AP and am assigned an ip adress

but cant connect to internet or webgui.

I definitely think it has something to do with rules.

There is some circumstance where a specific rule is required to allow DHCP on an interface. Now that I think a bit more about it maybe its when an interface is a member of a bridge but that doesn't seem to apply to the original post which said the wifi wasn't bridged

Still worth checking the laptop IP address. I've seen one version of Windows refuse to accept IP addresses from pfSense DHCP. I fixed that by a registry change.

Do you have 'block private networks' checked?

I take it there's nothing in the firewall logs?
You have checked the network settings received by the laptop are correct?
What is the wifi card you are using?

Can you see the laptop associating and being issued an IP in the system log?
