Enabling Traffic Shaper increases pings substantially
-
Hi Guys,
I finally got my firewall to pass all traffic in bridge mode. Currently it is set up with 2 firewall rules in it just to allow traffic pass through it.
Now we went through the Traffic Shaper wizard last night and the only option we selected was VOIP. We gave it 1500kb/s of bandwidth.
Pings went from 10ms up to over 300ms accross the netowrk when we enabled the shaper. There was approx 40Mb/s going through the network.
Turning off the shaper immediatly brought the pings back to normal. Is the traffic shaper broken or am I missing something here?

Add a rule to put ICMP packets into the ack queue and try again.

Could you describe how to put them into an Ack queue, I know how to create a rule?
Sorry but I am only getting into pfsense. Thanks

Go to Firewall -> Rules -> Floating
Click the Plus sign at the bottom right side to add a new rule (a tooltip should pop up when your cursor hovers over it).
In the Edit rule page, set:
Direction to: Out
Protocol: ICMPScroll all the way down to Advanced Features and look for Ackqueue/Queue.
Set it to: none / qACK -

Oh.. In that case, the rules will be added directly under Traffic Shaper.
Just set to:
LAN->WAN
Protocol: ICMP
Source and Destination IP & Ports to 'ANY'
Target: qWanAck/ qLanAck
