Restore - Almost!
-
Hi
I was forced to do a full system restore recently due to a hardware failure.
Original system was a DELL PE2550 running pfSense 2.0 RC1 with 7 NICs and a current full backup. The system we restored to was a PE2850.
We transferred the original NICs and installed pfSense 2.0 RC1 from the same installation media as the original server.
After the basic assignment of the NICs and setting the LAN IP we restored the full backup from the original box.
We had to do a bit of fiddling with the NIC assignments again as they didn't seem to match up.Most of the settings seemed to transfer fine BUT there were no NAT rules, only firewall rules. On the original box we had linked NAT <-> Firewall rules but on the new box there were just unlinked firewall rules.
As there were around 50 rules on this 7 NIC box we had to do a lot of reverse engineering of the NAT rules by looking at the firewall rules and dns entries, which took hours to rebuild. NOTE TO SELF:- must take screen shots of rules! Also, the manual outbound NAT rules did not transfer - it was still set to automatic.
Has anybody else had a similar issue or was it down to the NIC mismatch that may have broken the rules?
thanks
Gordonps. would love to see a GUI setting for forcing speed/Duplex on a NIC. Most line providers in the UK still insist on static settings rather than Auto-Neg.

I thought latest snap gives the ability!?

Hi,
you are using a really old snapshot with RC-1. You should update.
In actual snapshots there is an ability to change duplex modes.
-
Thanks both - it is indeed there in RC3!
Hoorah! -
where ???

In the Web GUI, go to Interfaces, then select LAN or WAN or OPT, under the General Configuration section you'll see Speed and Duplex and an Advanced button next to it, click on Advanced and select your appropiate speed and duplex. Save and Apply.

I definitely do not see those in the interface setup on my version

There are new builds/snapshots of pfsense 2.0 every day. Snapshots are only available for pfsense 2.0 and not for pfsense 1.2.3
If you are using pfsense 2.0, got to SYSTEM - FIRMWARE.

It means recent/newer snapshots. Don't forget to re-select the update server URL for snapshots after July 4th per the post at http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,38687.0.html as well to make sure you get the most current version.
