I want squid to be silent.
-
I installed squid in pfsense. I am interested in being able to use this in a completely silent fashion, so that a remote website I visit would have no knowledge whatsoever that I use squid. Is this information exchanged with the remote website, and if so, how can I shut it off?

I'm not sure how to do it but somewhere you could say that squid tolds to remoteservers that it is only a client and not proxy

Hi,
take a look at this thread. It is about cachemgr.cgi but there are tips about anonymizing squid, too.

thanks very much. it looks like request_header_access is only available in version 3. http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/config/request_header_access/ I had version 2 of squid installed so i tried to switch to 3
(I am also using pfsense 2.0 now, had 1.2.3 installed but wanted to try 2.)
the version listed on the package install page is unavailable for download, so it cannot install. any ideas?

squid3 isn't really working till now.
if you like stable squid use version 2.
