Compact flash & Microdrive embedded space free
-
Dear all, I try pfsense on both 4GB compact flash and on a 1GB IBM microdrive with pfSense embedded version. Worked both very well but i have a confusion that also other People may have. It i suggested the embedded version for compact flash solid state version. I noticed that on both 1GB and 4GB the disk used reported is 65%. With df -k i see: Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
 /dev/ufs/pfSense 110019 66100 35118 65% /
 devfs 1 1 0 100% /dev
 /dev/md0 39406 1458 34796 4% /tmp
 /dev/md1 19566 5112 12890 28% /var
 /dev/ufs/pfSenseCfg 4631 40 4221 1% /cf
devfs 1 1 0 100% /var/dhcpd/devSeems that the embedd version did use only a few bytes (probably this versioion has been done for a compact flash of 128 MB) so if I use a 4GB (or less) a lot space is not used. If insted i download a 2GB or 4GB version probably they are not customized for solid state compact flash. - What are your suggestion ?
- wich version to use
- can i enlarge the /dev/ufs/pfsense direcory ?
 Thanks.

If insted i download a 2GB or 4GB version probably they are not customized for solid state compact flash. All the embedded versions are optimised for storage with limited write capability. - What are your suggestion ?
Follow the Info -> Versions link from the pfSense home page and read the description of the different versions. - wich version to use
See above - can i enlarge the /dev/ufs/pfsense direcory ?
Why? What are you wanting to do with system?

Dear Wallabybob, thanks for your suggestions: i check (for example) on http://files.chi.pfsense.org/mirror/downloads/ but from (info –> Version) http://www.pfsense.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=44 I only see a list of different version but no point to download. I did not find the embedded version for 2gb and 4gb except if they are the nanobsdxx version ;D. Thanks a lot. If insted i download a 2GB or 4GB version probably they are not customized for solid state compact flash. I only see a list of different version but no point to download. Try the Download link. nanobsd version is the embedded version (with "disk" writes restricted, so suitable for Compact Flash "hard drives").

Covered in the FAQ ;) In short, each are for the respective size of media (1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB CF cards etc).
