      Hi Guys,

I have a 100Mbit Half-Duplex connection to CPE Device that is open to 5Mbit. (Cisco 7200 Router with Switch Module)

The problem I'm having is when the cable is connected directly to laptop and a speedtest is done, I get 5Mbit down and 2Mbit up speed, but…when connected to Router PF2.0 RC3 (Current), the speed test results are in reverse. I get 2Mbit down and 5Mbit up.

      Is this a known problem?

Are there logs I can provide?

      Thanks, jits.

It depends on what you ahve configured in pfSense.

I would suspect a wrong configuration of the shaper!?

          Hi Ermal,

          Traffic shaping is not used.

I've done a factory reset. Will reconfigure and try again.

          Thanks, Jits.

I would try hard coding your connection to 100 Meg Full Duplex in PFsense.  I have seen this happen when a switch, port configured as Auto, is connected to a Cisco router with it's port speed hardcoded to 100Meg Full Duplex.

Most of the Cisco guys hard code their ports.

              Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice. I actually did that in 2.0 RC3 because we're going straight from WAN port into Cisco Switch module on 7200 Router, but got the same results, so…

I did a factory reset on 2.0 RC3, converted this end of the cable into a crossover, and introduced a D-Link Switch. The results are somewhat better now.

When the WAN cable is connected directly to laptop and localized speed test is performed, the results are 25Mbit down and 19Mbit up.

When the WAN cable is connected to WAN port on 2.0, RC3, via switch, and localized speed test is performed, the results are 15-19Mbit down and 6-9Mbit up. So, the results are no longer reversed. PF scrub is off, Network cards are "re" type, memory is 2GB, CPU is Atom 1.6GHZ, and hard drive is SSD. Why the disparity between direct connect and router connect? I'm not sure.

The ISP told me they hard coded for 100MB Full Duplex, but 2.0 RC3 only saw it as 100MB Half-Duplex..truth be told, if you ask me.

That means you must set your interface for 100 full, otherwise you end up with a duplex mismatch.
