      Hello,

I setup a USB Wifi adapter on my 2.0RC3, and It work very well. But when i check "Enable WPA" i cannot see anymore my SSID !
I also try with WPA Mode set to WPA2 (and many more change with many, many reboot after each change to be sure they are applied…) but still not working.
It is like if my USB WIFI card stop broadcasting when WPA or WPA2 is On... It work in WEP (i can see the SSID broadcasting)

      I run a :
2.0-RC3 (i386) built on Sun Aug 7 01:58:01 EDT 2011. (do not also work with Fri Aug 12 16:23:11 EDT 2011)

      My USB WIFI Adapter:
      ARGtek GM5 WLAN 802.11b/g/n
      Star Base Model : ARG-0800
      Chipset : Ralink RT3070

      System.log :

Have you changed /boot/loader.conf.local to load the firmware on startup?

yes I did it since the begining,I have created and put this line in loader.conf.local

          $ more /boot/loader.conf.local
          runfw_load="YES"

Without this line the USB device was not available after startup
anything else to do ? ???

You could go through your card settings shown by ifconfig and mine to see what is different. I found one difference (there might be more) which I wouldn't expect to "break" WPA2 but there might be a driver bug or hardware bug relating to this.

I can't think of anything else except see if WPA2 in AP mode works under another OS (e.g. under a recent Linux live CD).

Thank you wallabybob, i will check diff-conf.
I did a try on my ubuntu laptop, and the AP mode is working in WPA2

A strange thing : Yestarday i did a try with a Netgear W111V2 Usb Key. My server was off, i unplug the ARGTek and plug my Netgear. I boot, and as there are some changes in the LAN configuration, pfesense asked me to assign WAN & LAN port again. I dit it and no trace of interface for the Netgear USB Key. I did not try to make it work for long time, so i unplug the Netgear and re-plug the ARGTeK; I recreate the WLAN interface, first with no WEP/WPA. Ok it brodcast, and i can connect (nothing surprising at all yet… ). Then i activate the WPA2 like as describe in my first post, and then it work ! I reboot, it work again ! (i first think of a corrupted setup interface file, solved by reinstalling the interface). I decide to backup my server  with a live CD on a USB Hardrive, so backup done.
I reboot and then no more broadcasting.... The led is blinking very fast on the ARGTek and no broadcast.

My only suspicion (but i do not believe it) is an error message in dmesg.log indicating my CMOS battery is dead but i do not see any relation (expect, perhaps if the wpa crypto algorithm use the Mother Internal time before the ntp as setup up the system time? and it can generate bug.. I will change the battery this evening)

Just a question : Where are stored the wifi/wpa configuration on the system ?

So i change the battery :

                in /var/log/dmesg.boot
                Before :
                …..
                wlan: mac acl policy registered
                RTC BIOS diagnostic error 80 <clock_battery>cryptosoft0: <software crypto="">on motherboard
                ...
                After :
                .....
                wlan: mac acl policy registered
                cryptosoft0: <software crypto="">on motherboard
                .....
                I did the following test:
                Stop the Server
                Remove the USB WIFI
                Boot the Server
                Setup again re0 & sis0
                Plug the USB WIFI
Setup interface with no WEP & WPA
                It Works
                Setup interface with no WPA2
                It Works !!!

So, i do not understand…. I let the server up and running for few hours to see if the Wifi will still be there, and then i will try some reboot, to see if it is still working (i doubt....)

So i bought an "High Power 802.11a/n/b/g 300Mbps USB 2.0 WiFi Wireless Network Dongle" by Kinamax (26.50$ at DealExtrem Shop…) and it work perfectly in WPA2.
So my ARGTek has clearly and incompatibility problem with FreeBSD. ;)
