Cannot start OpenNTPD time server, no helpful logs

For some reason the OpenNTPD service is not working for me in pfSense 1.0.1. The package installation goes without a hitch, but the service does not start initially and cannot be started manually. Upon restart of pfSense, one entry appears in the OpenNTP service log:

ntpd[1075]: Terminating

Has anyone else had trouble with the NTP server package in pfSense 1.0.1?

do you have it configured right … you need to tell it which interface and to be enabled and such....?

I think it would be easier for someone to explain to me how you can possibly configure it incorrectly!

Enabled: yes

It simply does not start.

Apples and oranges. One person is talking about the OpenNTPD package (which can be a server). I think the original poster is talking about the built in version.

My /etc/passwd file already has an _ntp user. The only log anywhere regarding NTP is the OpenNTPD log which simply contains "ntpd[930]: Terminating" with a timestamp of when I last started the system. Attempts to start the OpenNTPD service manually result in no additional logs, but the service remains stopped.

I'm not sure what you mean in saying "as well"…are there two OpenNTPD services? I'm talking about the OpenNTPD package that can be installed as an extra and used as an NTP Server to provide NTP to the network, which would then allow me to synchronize client computers with pfSense. That is what I have installed and what is not starting for some reason.

I suppose there is an NTP client in pfSense that synchronizes with internet servers (e.g. pool.ntp.org), so that may be causing the confusion, but that part of pfSense seems to be working great and is not in question...

But maybe neither is working...?
