m1m1wall came with 1.2.3, but I'd like to try ver. 2. Not sure which one is the right image to install onto the new 4GB CF card.
      Perhaps this one..?
      pfSense-2.0-RC3-4g-amd64-20110621-1841-nanobsd.img.gz

      thanks

Thanks for replying. Physdiskwrite does come up with an error copying the above image (4GB):

          Found compressed image file
3774726144 bytes writtenWrite error after 3774726144 bytes (8192).

I would have thought that the "4gb" image would fit a 4gb CF card?  ;D
Actually what is the difference between the 4 and the 2GB images?

This "card size" issue has been discussed a number of times in the pfSense forums. Try the "2G" image.

Use the i386 image – NOT the amd64 image that you listed -- on an ALIX (which is what a m1n1wall is). The processor is x86 only, and is not 64-bit capable.

Good point, thanks. I had a look at the m1n1wall specs, noticed an AMD processor…  :-[
The 2GB image loaded no problem, it was clearly a matter of size. If I understand the docs correctly, there is no difference between the 2gb, 4gb images, aside from the amount of free space after install. Is this correct?

Yes. Only difference is size. That is covered in the doc wiki, as it's an FAQ.
