      hi there,
I found two problems in the latest pfSense 2.0 RC3 snapshot.
      1. I have already installed pfSense 1.2.3, and I changed the upgrade URL to "http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD_RELENG_8_1/i386/pfSense_RELENG_2_0/.updaters/". When the upgrade process is completed, my computer rebooted automatically.(It may upgrade to pfSense-Full-Update-2.0-RC3-i386-20110906-1549.tgz). But I cannot enter system anymore. I plugged a monitor to my computer and found it told me mouting root filesystem failed. I typed in "?" and trying to retrieving the partition list. The only one partition is ad0, no slice can be seen. If I typed in "ufs:/dev/ad0", a lot of errors would be shown to warn me cannot mount "/", "/usr" and so on.
      2. If I download the pfSense 2.0-RC3 from "http://blog.pfsense.org/?p=589" and burn that image into a CD, the installer would failed. It failed in "bsdlabel" command and told me cannot found "/dev/ad0s1", no such file.

My router is a IBM 810 machine with 20G Maxtor hard disk driver.

        hi,
I tried to install it on VMWare and it works okay. Maybe this is only a problem on my hardware?
BTW: I can successfully install the previous BETA versions of pfSense such as Beta4.

Sounds like there may be an issue with the driver for your disk controller. Out of curiosity, does it work if you choose the option to "boot from USB" from the boot menu?

Probably not if the ISO doesn't see it during the install, but it's worth a try.

Is that a RAID controller of some kind? Any BIOS options to tweak for the disk controller? AHCI/Legacy/RAID mode switches?

Hmm… No such option in my boot menu...

My router is too old to have those options… It's a IBM 810 machine, no AHCI or RAID support.

BTW: If I choose Custom mode to start installation progress, I can see my hard disk driver and it can be formatted. The error occurred when the label is going to be created.

I am very sorry but this may caused by my computer hardware. I have successfully install pfSense on another computer with the same hardware. I will do something more to determine which hardware is broken.
However, that computer can run pfSense 1.2.3 perfectly.
