Need help installing TRAFSHOW
-
Hello all. I used to use trafshow on my pfsense 1.2.3 boxes all the time. Now i cant install it any more. If i run pkg_add -r trafshow it says:
Error: FTP Unable to get ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-7.2-release/Latest/trafshow.tbz: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
pkg_add: unable to fetch 'ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-7.2-release/Latest/trafshow.tbz' by URLI am assuming this has something to do with FreeBSD no longer being on version 7.2 but i just need to know how to install it. Im trying to view realtime traffic. ive had some success with the RATE package but i prefer trafshow as i can set it to update every 1 second for almost realtime analysis of traffic.
Does anyone here know how to install trafshow nowadays?
Thanks,

It's because latest packages are no longer available for 7.2. You need to switch to 7-stable.
You can specify the full path directly:
pkg_add -r ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-7-stable/Latest/trafshow.tbz
Or set a variable more permanently. See: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,32047.0.html
Of course some packages from 7-stable may not work correctly.

thanks for your help. i get an error message saying it was already installed or a previous version was. i remember messing with it a while back and i think i downloaded some version of it or maybe the source code and tried to install it but failed when it could find a library. how do i uninstall it? if i try to run trafshow i get the error message: "/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libncurses.so.8" not found, required by "trafshow" "
thanks so much!

Since I no longer have a 1.2.3 install I can't certain about this but in general….
You probably need to add a symlink called libncurses.so.8 and point it at what ever version of libcurses is part of pfSense 1.2.3.
