I recently had to reconfigure a WAN connection remotely, unfortunate for me.  I changed the settings on the WAN interface but did not apply the changes, planning on changing the gateway setting before applying changes.  However since the new WAN ip configuration was not even close to the old, it would not accept the new gateway until the changes were applied to the WAN interface.  My question is, can we make it so if there are "pending" changes, the validation for gateways and other portions of the system are based on the pending changes instead of the current configuration?

Maybe the best way is backup the config, make the changes manually and restore the new backup?

Why not use the console menu to make these types of changes?  You can modify any interfaces IP address, DHCP Server settings, etc in one pass.

Using the "add a new one" link next to the gateway drop-down on the interface page bypasses the subnet check for the gateway. Add the gateway with that link first, then change the IP. Works fine.

Can you set a gateway using the console menu?  I don't remember getting asked for one.  Just IP/Subnet IIRC.
