Log spam from hostapd
-
I am generally very happy with my pfSense install..
I do have a nagging issue.
I am sending logs to a remote machine via syslog.
The logs are full of debugging messages from hostapd such as the following….Jan 9 04:59:25 router hostapd: ral0: STA 00:14:a5:22:23:91 WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN) Jan 9 04:59:25 router hostapd: ral0: STA 00:24:d7:0d:7d:40 WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN) Jan 9 05:00:25 router hostapd: ral0: STA 00:14:a5:22:23:91 WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN) Jan 9 05:00:25 router hostapd: ral0: STA 00:24:d7:0d:7d:40 WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)
I've tried editing the /var/etc/hostapd_ral0.conf file to change the logging levels to something less verbose, but it just gets over written at boot time.
Is there someplace I can change the log levels for hostapd?

Did you ever get anywhere with this?
I must say that it renders the system log pretty much useless with all the hostap messages.Steve

To get around this i've set the key rotation to 3600 and the master key to 7200.
This massively decreases the log spam (and i'm not that paranoid that i have to rotate the key every minute). -
Of course, key rotation! ::)
Should have spotted that they were all once a minute.
However it seems odd that the logging level is set to most verbose by default. It seems everyone (almost) uses an iPhone and, among other annoying features, they switch the wifi on and off the instant it thinks you're not using it to save power. Hence many log entries.Steve

FYI-
I just made a new log file for hostapd logs, and its own tab, and they will no longer spam the system log.
It will be fixed in 2.1 / 2.0.1

Thanks jimp. After I've upgraded firmware I'll especially appreciate that change when next I'm dredging the system logs.

Yes, I'm looking forward to that.
Thanks Jim! :)Steve
