Can I use pkg_add to install other FreeBSD packages?
-
I'd like to install Tinyproxy on my pfSense 2.0 machine.
It has a FreeBSD package available so can I just download it and install it via the command-line using pkg_add?
-
As far as I know you can. But - of course - there is no GUI implementation.
-
Yeah, no GUI is fine, but will everything else work?
I'm assuming this application (Tinyproxy) will have configuration files inside /etc, and other places around the system…
-
Not sure if Tinyproxy will work but it should if you install all packages and dependencies.
-
I'm not too familiar with FreeBSD but I downloaded the tinyproxy package from ftp.freebsd.org.
Do I just perform pkg_add on that file and it will grab the dependencies or do I need to do something else?
-
It will download dependencies, but try it on lab before.
Some dependencies may break your pfsense. -
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid.
I might just use squid or varnish instead. (I'm looking for a very lightweight HTTP CONNECT capable proxy server and tinyproxy sounded perfect but I don't want to break pfSense and tinyproxy has a ton of dependencies…)
