VLAN Switch - DLINK DES-1210

Hi,
I'm planning to replace a server full of NICs with a VLAN switch in a single NIC server and use VLAN support in pfSense 2.0.
I found a good price on DLink DES-1210 switch (I'm in Brazil), but didn't find any reference to it's use in pfSense VLAN environment and DLink support was useless.
Is anyone using DES1210 or DGS1210 switches with pfSense VLAN?

Hi,
pfsense is using the IEEE 802.1Q standard to work with VLANs.
In general all switches support this protocol.If you switch is using 802.1Q that it will work with pfsense.

DES-1210 supports 802.1Q 2003 version. Is that all I really need? Don't I need also VLAN trunking in switch?

"trunking" is the ability to put the different vlans together on one port - in general the port which is connected to pfsense. If the switch is able to do 802.1Q than it is able to do trunking.
I took a look at the data sheet and I do not see any point that this switch could make problems with vlans/trunking in general and with pfsense.

The DES-1210-28/ 08P will work with VLANs and trunking. Look under the product support page and download the manual. The section you're specifically looking for is labelled under Asymmetric VLANs.

I read manul, but I'm really confused about VLAN. Nachtfalke said that if a switch is 802.1Q capable than it supports trunking, but when I was flashing OpenWRT into an TP-Link router, I read that some routers was VLAN capable but doesn't support VLAN trunking, so since then I'm confused about it! :-\
So, back to DES-1210… I'll give it a try when I get another internet link.

That is a limitation of OpenWRT on the specific switch chipset used in the router. It (the firmware and processor) can accept and process the VLAN tags but the switch cannot tag the packets due to driver or hardware limitations.
Similarly, some unmanaged switches can support VLAN tagged packets but will not process them; they will simply pass on the tagged packets without alterations to the mac address the packets are bound for. The destination device will have to deal with the VLAN tags on their own.

I received my DES-1024 last week and today I switched my server to use it! It's up and running with VLANs!
