I love the snort package included as part of pfsense.  If I'd like to see that development continue where is the most appropriate place to contribute money?  Should it got to snort.or or to pfsense?  If it goes to pfsense how do I earmark it for development of the snort package specifically to make sure that package stays as current as possible with the snort.org releases?

For pfSense itself you can go here:
        http://www.pfsense.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=77

If you want your money to goto the current snort package that you install, I believe you would need to make a note and Scott will put that money for more snort development time(pfSense Team, correct me if I'm wrong here). I believe nothing is being adding to it, just donations to fix parts that not working correctly (barnyard2 comes to mind)

user jamesdean is the original creator of the pfsense snort  package and has stop working on the current package we are currently using. He is working on a new snort-dev package. You can check it out here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,27388.0.html I myself, is dieing to test it out once its working.

jamesdean does take donation for beer and chips while he programs: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,16847.0.html

hope this helps but hoping jamesdean and scott drop a note on the subject

So moving forward in pfsense, it will be Jamesdean's work that will be incorporated into pfsense as a package?  I think that's where I'd want to fund.  I mean, snort.org is great but if my specific use of snort is with pfsense it makes more sense to me to fund it there.

I'll wait a bit and see if they weigh in on the subject.

          Thank you!

cdsJerry i think if you want  a proper snort package the proper place is to fund through pfsense.org.
They will make sure, and you can count on this, to put the proper resources on it.
Be it James Dean, me or someone else.

Just be sure to mention that they are for snort and in what area you want the donation be focused more.
It can even be beer for me :)

I'm pretty sure this accounts for Bonzi Buddy as well. . . Ermal, care to admit to anything?
