Is the pfsense 1.2.3 load balancing intelligent?
-
Ok so I was using pfsense 2.0, but a lot of the new builds have been wonky, GUI not responding and what not.
Now, I just went back to pfsense 1.2.3 and setup multi wan via the Load Balancing option.
However is this intelligent? Will it know when one is becoming overloaded and put new traffic to the other one? Or is it completely random?
Because in pfsense 2.0, you can set the option to be "high latency or packetloss" and what not.

high latency/loss doesn't mean what you're implying. It means that if a WAN becomes slow or has loss, all connections on it are dropped and it is taken out of service until it recovers.
That aspect of failover/balancing works the same on 1.2.3, you just don't have the same fine-grained controls for setting thresholds for failure as exist on 2.0.
In 1.2.3 and 2.0, the load balancing is done on a round-robin basis per connection.

… and if you want to weight one connection over another, add multiple entries for the connection you want used more often.
