      Hi,

I tried yesterday with to WLAN USB sticks:
Alfa AWUS036H with Realtek R8187L chipset.

The problem ist, that the console shows me, if I try to run it as an AP "HOSTAP mode not supported".
But in Windows or openSUSE it works as AP. Is this a freebsd driver problem or is this a pfsense problem ?

Further I used two other WLAN USB sticks with one time RT2560 chipset and one time with rt73 (Edimax EW-7318USg)  chipset. Both are ralink chipsets.

Both run into the error in the picture I attached.

Interesting is, that the start as AP, they send beacons and I can find the with a WLAN client, but if I try to connect it runs into this error.

It is a limitation of the FreeBSD driver for Realtek WLAN chip(s?) that AP mode is not supported.

I have seen the integer divide panic in FreeBSD problem reports database. Its some months since I plugged a rum device into my pfSense test system but I don't think I ever saw the integer divide panic.

I suggest you search the FreeBSD problem report database where you may find a workaround: for example, configuring a specific channel rather than defaulting to "Auto".

Hehe, chip, chipsets, chips - sigular, plural - german <-> english. This happens, if words in german sounds similar to english words but have a different meaning ;-)

Can you tell me a chipset or better a WLAN USB stick which is working for you with pfsense ?

I've had satisfactory performance from the Tenda W311U (under US$15 after conversion from local currency) acting as an AP. I haven't tried to stress test it. It is supported by the run driver which is new in pfSense 2.0.
The driver reports it has the Ralink RT3070 chipset.
