No traffic on WAN using ZyXEL P-660R-D1 in half bridge mode
-
Hi people. I'm new here - first post. I've done about 10 pfSense installs and it is a great product. Today, however, I was asked to deploy a pfSense box using a ZyXEL 660R-D1. This article: http://www.potato-people.com/blog/2008/04/zyxel-660r-half-bridge-mode/ describes how you can configure the router to use a half bridge mode that assigns the public IP via DHCP to the LAN port. Now this works fine on my laptop. It picks up the public IP from the ZyXEL via DHCP and the laptop has full Internet visibility and traffic flows both ways. Cool.
However it doesn't work on pfSense. The WAN interface picks up the public IP just as it does on my laptop but it refuses to pass traffic. For example, attempting to PING an internet host from the console doesn't even work. I've tested this box using an alternate WAN connection (cable modem) and it's fine.
Would anybody out there be able to shed any light on this. Perhaps somebody else has got this same config to work. I understand this particular router is fairly popular because of this 'half-bridge' functionality.
Very grateful for any suggestions.

It would be helpful to have more details. What is reported when you attempt on the pfSense console a ping to an Internet host?

Hi, and thanks for the reply. When using the ping utility from the console, it simply states that 3 packets were sent, no reply, 100% loss. I can ping pfsense own wan ip, however I.e. the one that was assigned via dhcp fro the zyxel. This ip is also the default gateway. I thought this was strange, but I guess the zyxel is supposed to sort out the routing. It certainly works under win xp when I was testing the zyxel half bridge setup on my laptop.
