Just wondering what the status on squid is lately.  I checked the squid website, and it shows 2.7 as depreciated, and soon when 3.2 is out it, 2.7 will move to obsolete status.
I see a v3 package available, but it shows it as Alpha status.  I would have though by now if 3.0/3.1 is production status, we should be out of beta.
Anyone know if it's by design, or just that maybe a bounty to update is required to help encourage someone to take up the package?

I'm sort of happy with 2.7, but I am having issues.  In firefox, if I go to youtube, every maybe 10th video I play has a subvideo played in the top right section.  I've narrowed it down to squid, and have lived with it as just an annoyance.
I know I asked this question a year ago or more, but at that point v3 was not in production, and it made a lot of sense to stay with 2.0.

      Thoughts?

Squid 2.7 are maintained by pfSense core team.

Squid 3.x are not finished or maintained as it still has a missing updated released to 2.7.

          Hi !
until now i'd recommend you using pfSense 2.x with the squid-reverse-package, since it includes all features currently, but still depends on squid 2.7.
I'm working on porting the features to squid 3.1 and want to create a new package or update or else, not sure by now… squid3 is mainly for testing so far... but seems to work so far...
but i do not have any feedback if the auth settings still work, since these are from squid 2.7 and in 3.1 they might be different...

Do you me the "User Auth" using RADIUS or other systems ?
If yes then I probably find some time to test with FreeRADIUS2 package when I am at home.

Perhaps it will help you when you open a squid3 thread and/or a page on pfsense docs where you put in all points which do not work or of which you are unsure if they are working. then people can participate and give you feedback.

I am very interested in squid3 package but till now I do not know why it is just alpha and how to help on this. :)

I did some basic testing yesterday with Squid3 and FreeRadius2 last night. I can confirm that it indeed works for basic user auth (prompted for username to gain access to the web)
