100% disk used.. help
-
Hey guys, i have pfSense running on a ESXi server. The HDD size is 100gb, i have squid but only giving it a small amount of disk space (whole /var/squid/ directory is only 2.5GB).
For some reason my disk is showing 100% full on the home page of the pfSense GUI. Can someone please assist in how i can find out what might be doing this? or if it is in fact a bug showing 100%.

squid probably takes all you disk space. remove squid cache.

thanks for the reply.
I dont think that that is my issue, i have already ran du -h /var/squid/ and the entire directory, cache and logs is only 2.6GB.
Any other ideas?

First run "df -i" and post that output. That will show which slice/partition is full.
Next run "du -k -d 1 /" and it will show how much is in each directory under /, then you can follow the trail from there.

Thanks jimp, here are the results i am seeing, and am even more confused as my pfSense VM is 100GB HDD allocated, and from what i see below, doesnt add up to 100GB.. so nut sure why its showing as 98% full (deleted swap.state to drop it from 100% to 98%)

So it's under /var
According to that df output it's only using a 4GB partition. Not 100GB.

Hum… interesting, i guess something i f**ked up in the install.. cause the Virtual HDD i allocated 100GB. Is there someway that i can extend that partition?
I dont really understand how that happened.. i mean i had the ISO and installed it normally, didnt get asked anywhere during install about partition sizes.. when i did the same install on a physical box it used the whole drive.. what did i do wrong?

Not easily. Easier to backup the config and reinstall.
Or make a new VM, install there with the right disk size, and then swap the VM disk images around.

Yeah, was just thinking that i would do that. How come on the easy install it would have created the partition as only 4gb? shouldnt it use the entire disk available?

It wouldn't unless the entire disk was only 4 GB (sure it's 100 GB? maybe misrepresented to the OS, check the system log after boot to see what the hypervisor tells the VM it has available) or it was manually partitioned.
