Looking to build a gigabit router
-
So I've got 1000/1000Mbit/s internet and want to be able to use my connection to the fullest so I'm looking into building a new gigabit router. I've been looking around some and checking specs, also been comparing prices and such and come up with a few alternatives.
I'm considering using the SB Celeron G530 and 2x4GB DDR3 ram. However I'm not quite sure which will be the wisest when it comes to motherboard and nics, one alternative is to use the Intel DH61WW-B3 (Intel 82579V nic) and add a Intel PRO/1000 Desktop CT (Intel 82574L) or use my old Intel Pro/1000 MT Server nic if it's good enough. Another alternative which will cost about the same is to buy a ASRock H61M-VS motherboard and add a Intel PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter (82571GB chipset). Which way would you guys recommend going? Logically one would think that the Intel Server nic would be better and the PCI-E shouldn't bottle neck dual Gigabit full duplex (500MB/s) but I don't know which got the best drivers under FreeBSD.

Scroll down. There's a post on this from just the other day.

Yeah I've seen that and read that thread, I based the hardware of that config however I'm basically wondering if a Intel Pro Server PT card wouldn't be better.

I recently built the following[1]. I would go with the Intel dual port server NIC.
