Log Flooding

Hey guys,
Just heard about PFSense this past week (yeah, I'm up to date on technology. Don't judge). Of course I had to try it, and a thin client seemed like the way to go for me. I dropped it on an HP 5720t and the install went fine - with the exception of some serious log flooding which continues even now. I would have posted this in the install section, but it seems to be more hardware related than install… Here's what I get:

ACPI Error (psargs-0464): [RBYT] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND
ACPI Error (psparse-0633): Method parse/execution failed [\RTMP] (Node 0xc361cbc0), AE_NOT_FOUND
ACPI Error (psparse-0633): Method parse/execution failed [_TZ_.THRM._TMP] (Node 0xc361ca20), AE_NOT_FOUND

Loops over and over. Google search indicates that FreeBSD doesn't play nice with some hardware and isn't reading some thermal setting properly. Only "solution" I found was to disable that message output. While it may clean up my logs, closing my virtual eyes isn't an ideal solution in my book. Anyone have an idea how to get everyone to play well together? Thanks in advance!

That suggests to me the ACPI in your BIOS might be broken, at least as far as FreeBSD is concerned. There might be a BIOS update to fix it. Alternatively, you could try booting with ACPI disabled (there might be a BIOS setting for this; there is a FreeBSD boot loader setting for disabling ACPI.)

I agree, disable acpi. You are probably not using it anyway.
Interestingly there is an article about this in the wiki: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Disable_ACPI but I think it's now out dated.

Put the following line in /boot/loader.conf.local you will probably have to create the file:


hint.acpi.0.disabled="1"
