How to Make WAN Pingable?
-
I am running version 2.0.1 and would like to (temporarily) make my WAN port pingable to the outside world. I can find no easy way to do so in the menus. How is it done? ???

You need to create a rule for icmp and the set the destination as the wan.
I believe that is all there is to it.

How (assume nothing, please)?

Here you have an example:

That's correct. he can also make a "floating" rule to allow ICMP depending on where the unit is sitting.
I'm using pfSense strictly as a proxy inside an already private network. So ping is important and thus allowed everywhere.

Thanks all, it worked. :D
By the way, ptt, how are you able to post an image on this forum (I have tried clicking image but it just shows text)?

Hi,
You should try to unchecked on wan interfaces (wan1 or wan2) private networks. Look at pics behind.

What benefit does the unchecking yield?

None If your WAN have a public IP
This is only usefull if your WAN have a "Private" IP (RFC1918)
He's just replying without reading that you have solved the problem.
Maybe you can Edit the Thread Title and add [SOLVED] to it.
