So I have been running squid and squidguard for quite a while.  It's been running not too bad, but I do notice some issues on some sites (some youtube pages get a looping preview window).  I've been hoping a squid 3 update may one day come out and possibly fix the issues.
I now see a whole bunch of great packages come out.
Could someone give me their feedback on the packages.

Squid 3.  Looks like a reverse proxy version of squid.  Does it run on normal cache mode?  Does it work with squidguard?
Varnish.  Does it run in transparent mode?

Does anyone have varnish/danguardian working nicely as a transparent proxy and filtering?

Any feedback is appreciate.  I'll have to setup a vm and play.  Right now all these setups seem overwhelming :)

        It runs on both modes.

Varnish is a http reverse proxy with caching, you point your dns record to it's ip and it does balance, fail over, reducer server load, etc.

You can configure it to act as a proxy server but it's designed to reverse proxy, so AFAIK no transparent support for it.

I do as proxies only. Transparent proxy do only http filtering leaving https 'free'. A WPAD/PAC configuration is more secure this way.
