Installing to ESXi 5.0
-
Hi!
I want to try out PFSense to use instead of Vyatta, and not getting anywhere quick. I'm having trouble, and can't seem to find anything concrete about installing PFSense into a virtualized ienviroment. The best I found is 'Just load open-vmtools' but when I type load openvm-tools I get a 'load: Command not found' …
I also found a VM appliance, but seems old so went with version 2.0 amd 64 iso and installed, but PFSense doesn't see the VMXNET3 NICs.
So, my question is:
Is there a how to I can follow? and how do I 'Just load Open-VMTools'?
Thank You!
Also, it would be nice if there was a forum for just Virtualization.

There is, here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/board,37.0.html :)
The vm ware tools package is part of the pfSense package system accessed through the gui. See: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Open_VM_Tools_package
Of course to install that you need to have internet access. ::)
I've not tried it myself but maybe choose some lesser NIC type and then switch back once installed. :-\There are prebuilt OVAs of the most recent snapshots (now quite stable) on the server here:

Edit: I see there's a how-to:

Thank You for the help!
If I scrolled further down the forums list I'm sure I would have noticed Virtuaization ;)
I saw this page : http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Open_VM_Tools_package but could not get what needed to be done to install! I was looking at the CLI and couldn't get it to 'load open-vmtools' But now that I've seen the GUI it's easy! except which version do I install?
I'll check out the OVA's as well, if they're easier to deploy, why make work for myself.
GUI looks great! btw… and again for the help!
For anyone else looking to install on VMware ESXi, logon to PFSense's WebGUI and add or load open-vm-tools package.
I get this when accessing the Development OVA's on snapshots.pfsense.org: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /FreeBSD_RELENG_8_3/amd64/pfSense_HEAD/virtualization/pfSense-2.1-DEVELOPMENT-amd64-20120326-0809.ova on this server.Fooie! I I have to logon to gain access to these ova's?
