Snort 2.9.0.5 EOL is next Tuesday (no more rules so after Tuesday subscribers will not get any more rules from VRT and 30 days-ish later for registered users. What I would be awesome would be latest snort (which will soon be 2.9.2.2) utilising the JavaScript deobfuscation stuff in the HTTP Preprocessor, the ability for the GUI to remember enabled and disabled rules and also perhaps the ability to use ETPRO rules if you have a code.

Either way jut a heads up so people are aware :-)

Snort 2.9.2.2 has now been released:

This is a newish feature (introduced in 2.9.1) that looks useful for investigating e.g. WebClient alerts:

        • Logging of HTTP URL (host and filename), SMTP attachment
filenames and email recipients to unified2 when Snort generates
          events on related traffic.

Personally, I wish the snort-dev package would get finished and released (with the latest snort).

Post a bounty although I think the pfsense package developer has stated he would do this if there were some donations coming in becuase on of the things the GUI doesnt do is deep packet inspection, you have to set this up yourself.

I already PMed him and e-mailed cmb offering money.  Neither replied so far (though jamesdean has not been on here since).  I might e-mail him.

I am not sure to whom you have sent money but not to me, not sure with cmb.

If you send me the money for sure that will help since jamesdean is not anymore in the loop for this and not has spend time to make snort usable.
Since you were willing to send money just send them to me and surely it will help get snort further forward.
