Pfsense Problems ?
-
Hello everybody?
I have a Pfsense box and have never had any problems at all, when it was running on an Old Pentium 4 system.
Now I have bought an Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 ghz motherboard with 2 gbs of ram and are running the pfsense on a flashdrive like I always have done. The Pfsense I am running right now is an fresh install of 1.2.3.
My problems is that the internet is running perfectly for about 1 hour and 30 minutes then the Internet connection stops.
I dont know what the problem is exactly ? And I dont have an Idea of why it happens. Is there anybody out there who has the same problem I do ?
And a solution I would be very happy ?Hope somebody understands my problem, Is not very good at english ?
thx.

Your have to provide a little more information… could you explain what happens when the internet connection stops
Does your modem remain sync'ed with the exchange when the drop out occurs?
Does the pfsense box crash?
What errors do you receive in the system log?
-
Yes I know I have to give a little more information.
The System logs doesn't says anything, and the modem is sync'ed what I can see.
The Pfsense box does not crash, It just looses connection after 1 hour and 30 minutes.
I dont know if u want my motherboard information? http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=A330GC
Then i have 2 x 1 GB Corsair Ram.
I also have a D-link lan: http://mellowd.co.uk/ccie/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/CategoryImages-DFE580TXl.jpg
The Wan and Lan are both going trougt the D-Link.
I dont know if this information is something u can use ?
Again it has never been a problem when I was running on my old P4 motherboard ?

Could you ping a WAN address like googles DNS 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 ?
If yes, perhaps it is a DNS problem. When the connection is lost, are you able to ping the LAN and WAN interfaces from a Client ?
Did you see any blocked connections in the firewall log from connections comming from LAN ?Do you have other packages installed ?
Is there a cron job which starts every 1h30min ?Does this only happen on one client or on others, too?
What do you do, if the connection stops ? Restart the pfsense or just reconnect the WAN connection ?
-
I cannot ping anything when the internet are loosing connection.
I can find everything on the lan site and ping the computers in the lan.
The only thing I have installed is the Cron package, and this script :http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,17243.msg89348.html#msg89348
When I have been loosing the connection I have rebootet the Pfsense Box. And then the internet has been working without any problems for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
I have also tryed to release the Wan og renew it, but the internet was not running. So after a reboot it was running perfectly again, for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

strange….why it is every 90 minutes.....I do not know 1.2.3 but is there an option to check standby times or something like that ? something in the BIOS which shuts down an interface. Perhaps it has something to do with energy saving profiles of the processor ?
This all is hypothetical but I do not know any logical solution for this problem. If the configuration worked on other hardware and you didn't change anything than the problem points to a hardware problem.
Sorry that I couldn't help you much more.

Is it something simple like your PPPoE connection timing out, and turning on keepalives will fix it?
